Founded in 1964 and listed in Hong Kong in 1972 (Stock Code 0227HK), First Shanghai is a comprehensive enterprise with three core businesses: financial services, direct investment and property and hotel development. The company’s businesses are distributed over Hong Kong and mainland China, including the Pearl River delta and the Yangtze River delta. Among the financial services that First Shanghai provides are securities brokerage (stock and futures), asset management and corporate financing.

According to regulatory information, First Shanghai’s office in Hong Kong is located at 19/F, Wing On House, 71 Des Voeux Road Central, Central, Hong Kong.The inspection team paid a field visit to this site. 

According to the address, the survey staff initially came to Wing On Centre. However, the surveyors did not find First Shanghai’s name on a directory sign inside the centre.  

After asking the staff at the reception desk on the ground floor, the surveyors realized that they turned out to have mistook the “Wing On Centre” for “Wing On House”, the latter being where they want to be. The surveyors then moved on ahead along the Des Voeux Road Central, and finally found the Wing On House. The main entrance of the building was not very big or obvious, no wonder it was hard to find. The surveyors noticed that there were several institutions such as Bank of China next to the 21-storey building.

The surveyors entered the building and took an elevator to Level 19. As they got out of the elevator, the fist things coming into sight were a “China Assets” logo, a bronze statue of war horse and the reception desk area. In order to confirm that “China Assets” and “First Shanghai” are one same company, the surveyors asked the receptionist, who gave a positive answer. About 30 employees were estimated to work here.

Conclusion

The actual address of First Shanghai was proved to be consistent with its regulatory address.Investors are advised to resort to their good judgement after consulting the said above.
