Indian markets are likely to open higher after Wall Street closed in the green yesterday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.32%, S&P 500 gaining 0.7%, and NASDAQ Composite closing up 1.23%. Treasury yields have fallen marginally and this has eased inflation concerns. Asian markets are mixed with Nikkei 225having followed the US markets and is trading up 0.52% but the KOSPI 50 is down 0.41% and the Shanghai Composite is down 0.68%. Nifty 50 Futures are trading up 0.32% and that is a good indicator of Indian markets opening in the green. The next global trigger for the markets today will be news coming in from Europe where the number of COVID cases is rising.

Oil prices steadied on Friday, but were down 8% for the week, after an overnight sell-off as a new wave of coronavirus infections across Europe triggered fresh lockdowns and dampened expectations of any imminent recovery in fuel demand. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude CLc1 fell 33 cents, or 0.55%, to $59.67 a barrel by 0755 GMT. Brent crude LCOc1 was up 23 cents, or 0.36%, to $63.51 a barrel. The market is increasingly nervous about the outlook for fuel demand as new lockdown measures are imposed and vaccination rollouts stall, analysts said. Oil prices plunged 7% for a fifth day in a row on Thursday as several large European economies have reimposed lockdowns and vaccination programmes have been slowed by distribution issues and concerns about possible side-effects. French regions, including the Ile-de-France region around Paris, will start a four-week lockdown from Friday. will impact oil consumption in Europe and thus potentially give oil prices a modest headwind.
